As a trainer for Sage 50-Canadian Edition, I often get comments from students looking to take upcoming Seminars such as “I have been using the program for 20+ years what will be taught that I don’t already know?” or “How can I save time in my business using Sage 50?” and sometimes “I am spending too much time on data entry” another might ask Can I use Credit Cards or can I file my GST/HST return from Sage 50? Can I file my T-4’s and ROE’s from Sage 50 and Non-Profits often tell me I need to have a special tax code, that they need to use in Sage 50-Canadian.

These are some great questions to be asking. Many Sage 50-Canadian Edition users get a greater understanding of the program after taking the 2-day Seminar.

In the Seminars, the students will be asked what type of Business they represent. This helps to gear the Seminar class to specific examples of how and when students would use the many features in Sage 50-Cdn.

Although we walk through the common features, and even in these examples there are many shortcuts than can be offered, we take a look further at how many different areas can be used in their Business.

Let’s look at some examples:

The Project Module is one area that can be used in a few different ways.

Typically students think of it as allocating to a project to determine profitability and while that might be true, let’s look at some other examples of how it can be used.

A Non-Profit Organization may want to use the Project Module-to determine the profitability for a fund raiser perhaps selling tickets and then determining how much profit was made.

Another way to use the Profit Module is for businesses that may pay a commission to sales people, based on amounts Invoiced to customers-allowing to track commission to be paid out.

Businesses may also want to track a particular areas or departments of business to determine profitability, decisions can then be made to determine things such as if prices should increase/decrease, expenses need to be looked at or even discontinuing the product or service offered.

Budgets can also be setup with the project to determine if it may be under/over budget.

Departmental Accounting is also taught and when and when not to use it.

Another area using Sage 50-Canadian Edition that students taking Seminars find the biggest time saver is in filing the GST/HST return from within Sage 50-Canadian Edition. Filing directly from the program allows you to complete 4 easy steps saving valuable time. The Seminar classes also teach how to create tax codes that make accounting for sales tax must faster and ensuring that the GST/HST return if filed accurately.

We look also at setting up a Bank Reconciliation not only for bank accounts but also for Credit Cards and how to reset if necessary.

The Form Designer is a popular demonstration and allows businesses to create their own beautiful invoices, receipts, bank deposit slips, just to name a few. This is a great money saver for those who perhaps would like to print/email their own statements, invoices or another other document created by the form designer.

Speaking of Bank Deposit Slips…most people taking the Seminar have never used the Deposit Slip feature in the Banking Module. We go through the steps to setup and print off their own Deposit Slip which Financial Institutions are more frequently accepting. Using the Bank Deposit Slip feature allows for greater accuracy and eliminating the need to hand write the Deposit Slips. Another great time saver!

For those looking for payroll, aside from completing a large number of paycheques in a matter of minutes, we also review completing and filing T-4’s, ROE’s and even T5018’s online from Sage 50-Canadian Edition. This makes calendar year end procedures a breeze.

Speaking of Year-end we also visit how to complete a Fiscal Year End and which reports need to printed or provided in order to complete Tax Reporting. We review how to create and “Accountants Copy” as well.

From beginners to advanced users, Sage 50 Canadian Edition Seminars from Simply Business Training has much to offer!
